Celebrating World Interfaith Harmony Week: Promoting Dialogue, Understanding, and Peace February 1-7, 2025
A Global Commitment to Interfaith Harmony World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW) is a United Nations-recognized initiative aimed at fostering mutual understanding, respect, and peaceful coexistence among people of all faiths and beliefs. First proposed by King Abdullah II and Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad of Jordan in 2010, the initiative was unanimously adopted by the UN General Assembly (Resolution A/RES/65/5), declaring the first week of February as a time for interreligious dialogue, goodwill, and cooperation.
Why is WIHW Important?
Encourages interfaith dialogue and understanding;
Strengthens global peace and cooperation;
Brings together diverse communities to celebrate shared values;
Promotes respect for religious and cultural diversity.
The General Assembly recognizes that religious harmony is an essential pillar of global peace and encourages all nations, institutions, and civil society to observe World Interfaith Harmony Week through events, discussions, and initiatives held in churches, mosques, synagogues, temples, and other places of worship.
As the world faces new challenges to unity and tolerance, interfaith dialogue remains more crucial than ever. This week serves as a reminder that mutual respect, religious diversity, and peaceful coexistence are the foundation of a just and harmonious world.
Let’s use this opportunity to engage in dialogue, celebrate our common values, and build stronger bridges of understanding.
