UNESCO Chair in the Comparative Study of World Religions and Religious Studies

The UNESCO chair in the Comparative Study of World Religions and Religious Studies was established at the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan (formerly Tashkent Islamic University) within the framework of the UNESCO International Congress "World Religions on the Road to a Culture of Peace" held on September 14-16, 2000.

🎯 Long-Term Objective:

Promoting a culture of peace by encouraging dialogue among diverse faiths and cultures in Central Asia.

🚀 Specific Goals:

Curricular Innovation: Introducing cutting-edge curricula and teaching materials in higher, vocational, and secondary educational institutes across the Republic of Uzbekistan. Our aim is to enhance understanding and inclusivity regarding world religions.

Research Excellence: Advancing research in the comparative history of religions and comparative religious anthropology. We're committed to deepening insights into religious traditions, historical contexts, and interactions.

Global Collaboration: Contributing to the development of an international scientific network. We're forging partnerships with academic institutions worldwide to explore the dynamic interactions between different religions and cultures.

Empowering Communities: Undertaking formal and informal research and training projects for students, scholars, religious communities, and ethnic groups. In the spirit of tolerance and solidarity, our projects aim to foster mutual knowledge among cultures, religions, and spiritual traditions.

The teaching staff of the Chair comprises 19 highly qualified specialists, among whom 12 hold permanent positions. This contingent includes 1 Doctor of Science, 16 Candidates of Science, 2 lecturers, and 1 teaching assistant.

The Chair is led by Associate Professor Mahfuza Alimova, who holds a Candidate of Historical Sciences degree.
